Chris Bakewell, Global Practice Leader – Intellectual Property, Duff & Phelps, LLC
Chris Bakewell is a managing director based in Houston, leader of the Intellectual Property Disputes practice and city leader. Recently, this practice was recognized as the “Best Intellectual Property Litigation Consulting Firm” by the National Law Journal.
Chris has more than two decades of professional experience in the areas of business and asset valuation, economic and financial analyses and dispute consulting. His industry experience includes semiconductors, computer hardware and software, heavy industry, medical devices, energy, pharmaceuticals, media, retail and telecommunications.
Chris specializes in helping clients navigate through complex intellectual property issues by providing them with financial and valuation analyses and licensing-related consulting services. Chris has a unique background in that his career has been split between consulting and industry, which enables him to bring a pragmatic and experienced approach towards solving complex financial problems.
Chris also provides expert testimony in the context of business disputes, including patent infringement and other valuation-related matters. Chris also has significant expertise in providing expert opinions in Section 337 investigations before the International Trade Commission. His clients include inventors, start-up businesses and some of the world’s leading companies.
Chris has been nationally recognized as a top economic expert witness in the 2014 edition of the IAM Patent 1000. According to the guide, Chris is “one of the most renowned disputes experts in the land,” and one source adds that “the preparation he does in advance of his testimony is extraordinarily thorough and you can’t trip him up in cross-examination. He manages his team well and is highly efficient” Among other things, he is recommended for his “assured performances at the International Trade Commission (ITC), a forum in which he has more experience than most.”
Chris is the author or co-author of several publications on the subjects of valuation and licensing, and often speaks on these subjects. Chris earned an M.B.A. in finance from the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland at College Park, and a B.S. degree from Bradley University. He also holds the designations of Accredited Senior Appraiser from the American Society of Appraisers and Certified Licensing Professional from the Licensing Executives Society.
Marta Beckwith, Vice President Legal, Aruba Networks, Inc.
Marta Beckwith is Vice President Legal at Aruba Networks, where she is responsible for litigation and pre-litigation matters, including HR, commercial, regulatory, trademark and patent disputes, She is also in charge of Aruba’s patent and trademark prosecution, works with finance, IT and audit teams on various compliance issues, handles all legal issues related to standard setting organizations, and is a member of the SEC disclosure committee.
Prior to joining Aruba, Ms. Beckwith was Senior Director, Legal Services, at Cisco Systems, Inc. where she was responsible for worldwide intellectual property litigation. Before that, Ms. Beckwith was Senior Director, IP Litigation for Applied Materials, Inc.
Ms. Beckwith began her career at what was then known as Pillsbury Madison & Sutro and also practiced law at Limbach & Limbach and Fenwick & West. Ms. Beckwith received her law degree from UC Berkeley’s Boalt Hall School of Law. She also has an M.A. in Mathematics from UCLA and a B.A. in Mathematics from UC Santa Cruz.
Bruce Beron, Ph.D., President, Litigation Risk Management Institute
Dr. Bruce L. Beron was the Manager of the Litigation Analysis and Decision & Risk Analysis Practices at SRI International from 1983 until his departure in 1985 to organize The Beron Group, Inc., a management consulting firm specializing in Litigation Risk Management and Decision and Risk Analysis. In 1988 he founded the Litigation Risk Management Institute.
Dr. Beron’s area of expertise is management decision-making in litigation management, strategic planning, marketing strategies, and technology and R&D investments and planning. He has a strong theoretical grounding and practical experience in decision theory, engineering economics, and investment analysis. While at SRI International, he trained over one thousand attorneys and executives in Litigation Analysis and Decision and Risk Analysis at SRI’s highly acclaimed seminar program.
Dr. Beron has successfully conducted Litigation Risk Management / Settlement Valuation Analyses in a broad spectrum of cases involving national class action settlements, toxic waste, product liability, securities law, patent infringement, insurance and breach of contract. He has also directed studies concerning strategic planning for a large business unit of a major chemical company, strategic product planning for a Big Three automobile company, strategic investment decisions in synfuels research for a major energy company, new product introduction strategy for a large aerospace company, and a capital investment analysis of a major entertainment industry project.
Before joining SRI, Dr. Beron studied Engineering Economics at Stanford University, was a post-doctoral fellow at Stanford University, and taught at California State University at Hayward. Dr. Beron received his B.A. with Honors from Princeton and an M.S. and Ph.D. from Stanford. He currently lectures at Stanford.

Claudia Wilson Frost, Partner, DLA Piper LLP
Claudia Frost has almost three decades of experience handling federal and state trials, arbitrations, and administrative proceedings, including Section 337 actions in the ITC. Her recent trial experience has been predominantly in the areas of intellectual property, oil and gas, product liability and health care.
Her appellate experience includes appeals to the Texas intermediate appellate courts and the Texas Supreme Court and to various United States Courts of Appeals including the Fifth Circuit, the Ninth Circuit, the Tenth Circuit, the DC Circuit and the Federal Circuit, as well as the United States Supreme Court.
Claudia has provided strategic legal counsel and appellate and error preservation assistance in complex litigation in federal and state courts throughout the country. She has also advised clients on international patent acquisition and enforcement strategies.
She is a Fellow in the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers, a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates and is certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in both Civil Trial Law and in Civil Appellate Law.
Lynne Weber, Ph.D., Managing Director, Duff & Phelps, LLC
Dr. Lynne Weber joined Duff & Phelps in 2005. She is a managing director in the firm’s Strategic Value Advisory practice. Lynne has more than 30 years of experience consulting in the areas of business strategy, market analysis, data analytics and contingency valuation.
Lynne leads engagements requiring development of financial projections, statistical analyses, strategy valuation or the valuation of acquired contingencies and contingent consideration under ACS 805. She also provides expert analysis and testimony regarding market research surveys, sales projections and statistical analyses for complex commercial litigation, including contract, patent, product liability and shareholder disputes.
